The Centre for Innovation, Knowledge and Development (IKD), an interdisciplinary research centre, which has been established by the Open University (OU) to build upon the OU's internationally recognised excellence in the areas of: biotechnology innovation and development; innovation and industry dynamics; knowledge management; entrepreneurship; social learning and public action; and design innovation.

The Odyssey Group is an open network of organisation researchers who meet in physical and cyber-space to discuss and enact the implications of the current generation of Information and Communication Technologies.

Since its inception in 1999 the group has held meetings and workshops in North America, Europe, Australia, Africa and London.

The next meeting will be in Stockholm in July 2005.

The group is also working with community based transport initiatives in North East England through NEAT and the Moor Park Community Centre.

Asia Pacific Technology Network (APTN), based in London, provides access to international and UK companies and to government departments concerned with the economies of East Asia.

Originally the network focused on UK-Japan relationships.

Seminars and international meetings are held in the U.K. Korea and China reflects growiing interest in the social and technological developments in East Asia, and their effect on the global economy.

Asia Pacific Researchers in Organization Studies (APROS) has members from across the pacific Rim and beyond. It holds meetings in Australia, Japan, China and the North America.

In 2003 the archiving_practice was established to provide an on-line archive for the 2003 Colloquium in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The Design Research Society (DRS) holds regular meetings and cooperates with a variety of partners in international conferences.

The most recent conference, Futureground 2004, was held in Melbourne, Australia in November 2004.

The Mobile Network is a group of leading transport researchers and social scientists that is examining the complex social processes involved in contemporary patterns of travel and transportation.

The Network advances and assesses the social as opposed to conventional engineering and economic approaches to transportation.

The network has completed an initial ESRC funded seminar series. This examined how various economic, technological, social and political changes are transforming the significance and development of different forms of mobility.

North East Action on Transport (NEAT) This group has been hosted by Newcastle City Council to bring together local authorities, transport regulators and service providers with community and non-government interest groups. It is exploring new forms of governance and policy formulation.

In October 2001 NEAT organised a two day exercise in real-time monitoring of transport services by the communities served. This has been followed by meetings in a number of communities. A similar event was held in 2003 in conjunction with a high technology forum.
